Treasure Hunt Week #4 (July 29, 2008)

Welcome to week #4 of the NIa Divas' Summer Treasure Hunt to find the magical you.

But first...Week #3's treasure was the KNEES. How'd you do?  Experiences to share?  Comments welcome.

Now...Onward to week #4.

Your Body's Treasure: Clue #4

I am a condyloid joint, meaning that I can flex, extend, circle around.  I carry the flow of movement from your arm to your hand.  When I have full mobility, I can flex and pull your fingers up and back.  I can also extend your palm forward and point your fingers down.  When I have full stability, I can help you do a handstand, hold on to handrails, and catch a ball.

I Am Energized By...

Creepy Crawlers.  Wiggle all of your fingers, including your thumbs, as if you were tickling someone.  Keep your elbow's bent, and occasionally change the positions of your palms, to keep your shoulders and neck relaxed.

Be playful and mischievous and make the sound of laughter, (which will also help tighten your abdominals).  Use both hands.

Benefits of Creepy Crawlers include releasing tension and keeping your arms, hands, fingers, and associated joints mobile, strong, and agile.

Additional Nia moves to energize this joint include: Finger Flicks, Spear Fingers, Palm Directions, Webbed Spaces, Fists, Finger Extensions.

In Every Day Life...

Sense me every time you wave hello or goodbye or twist a doorknob.  I love to hold hands.  My worst nightmare is extensive repetitive motion, like typing on a keyboard all day, which can result in carpal tunnel syndrome.

We wish you a pleasant week of continued discovery!
